The Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied almost 36 million litres of petrol daily to the Nigerian market in August, accounting for about 71 per cent of the country’s total Premium Motor Spirit receipts.

The figures were contained in the latest data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The data highlights the growing contribution of domestic refining to Nigeria’s petrol supply as the country continues to reduce its reliance on imported petroleum products.

The refinery’s August supply represented the largest share of petrol receipts recorded from a single source during the period.

Other volumes supplied to the Nigerian market came through imports and other domestic sources.

The development comes as the Federal Government continues to promote local refining and encourage greater domestic production of petroleum products.

The increased supply from the Dangote refinery has also changed the structure of petrol distribution in the country, with domestic production accounting for a significant portion of market requirements.

The NMDPRA data provides an indication of the refinery’s role in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market during August.
