Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that truck drivers working with the Dangote Group are among the best paid in Nigeria, earning significantly above the national average.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, Dangote dismissed fears that the company’s new trucks would take away jobs. Instead, he said each truck creates opportunities for about six people, translating into tens of thousands of jobs across the country.

He stressed that the company values its drivers highly, noting that their monthly pay is almost four times the national minimum wage. “Our drivers earn more than some graduates,” Dangote said. “After five years of accident-free driving, they also qualify to apply for a house loan.”

According to him, the company’s drivers enjoy better benefits than many other workers in the sector, and joining the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) should remain a voluntary decision.

With the rising cost of living and unemployment challenges in Nigeria, Dangote’s revelation is sparking conversations about pay equity, job creation, and the changing face of the transport sector.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
