CVR: INEC REGISTERS 1.57 MILLION NIGERIANS IN SEVEN WEEKS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered 1.57 million new voters in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country within the first seven weeks.

INEC National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Festus Okoye, disclosed this while giving an update on the exercise. He noted that the figure represents a significant increase in citizen participation, particularly among young people and first-time voters. “This shows growing awareness and confidence in the electoral process,” Okoye said.

The commission attributed the success to improved digital tools, widespread sensitisation campaigns, and the deployment of more registration centres. INEC has urged eligible Nigerians yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing exercise before the deadline.

The development is seen as a positive sign ahead of future elections, with analysts projecting that sustained momentum could lead to higher voter turnout. INEC has pledged to maintain transparency and efficiency throughout the CVR period.
