CUSTOMS SENSITISES STAKEHOLDERS AHEAD OF ELECTRONIC CARGO TRACKING ROLLOUT
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has begun engaging stakeholders ahead of the rollout of its electronic cargo tracking system, a move aimed at improving cargo monitoring, strengthening trade facilitation, and enhancing transparency in the import and export process.
Customs officials said the initiative will provide better visibility of cargo movement, reduce delays, curb revenue leakages, and support more efficient border management.
The sensitisation exercise involved importers, freight forwarders, logistics operators, and other players in the maritime sector, who were briefed on the benefits and requirements of the new system.
Industry stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that digital tracking solutions can help improve supply chain efficiency, reduce human interference, and strengthen accountability within Nigeria’s trade ecosystem.
Experts said adopting technology-driven solutions is critical to modernising customs operations and aligning Nigeria’s trade processes with global standards.
The Nigeria Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to working with businesses and industry partners to ensure a smooth implementation of the electronic cargo tracking system while promoting faster, safer, and more transparent trade operations.
