CUSTOMS HANDS OVER ₦59 MILLION WORTH OF EXPIRED DRUGS TO NAFDAC

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over expired pharmaceutical products valued at ₦59 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for proper disposal and further regulatory action.

Customs officials said the seized drugs were intercepted during enforcement operations aimed at preventing the circulation of unsafe and substandard products in the country.

According to the service, the handover underscores the continued collaboration between the NCS and NAFDAC to protect public health by keeping expired, counterfeit, and prohibited medicines out of the Nigerian market.

NAFDAC commended the Customs Service for its vigilance, noting that the interception of expired drugs helps prevent serious health risks associated with the consumption of compromised pharmaceutical products.

Health experts urged importers, distributors, and retailers to comply with regulatory standards, warning that the sale or distribution of expired medicines poses significant dangers to consumers and undermines confidence in the healthcare system.

Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation, intensifying border surveillance, and enforcing regulations to safeguard Nigerians from harmful and substandard medical products.
