CUSTOMS GENERATE N88.9BN IN KANO

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated N88.93bn in revenue between January and September 2026, while goods seized or detained during the period were valued at N2.16bn.

The Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Usman Adamu, disclosed the figures during a press briefing at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano, on Friday.

Adamu said the command had generated N63.08bn in the first six months of the year before recording additional revenue in the subsequent months.

He also disclosed that July recorded the highest monthly revenue collection in the history of the command, with more than N14bn generated during the month.

The revenue performance was attributed to improved collection efforts and stronger enforcement operations aimed at curbing smuggling and ensuring compliance with customs regulations.

The command has continued to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations across Kano and Jigawa, targeting prohibited and restricted goods.

Customs authorities said the seizures formed part of efforts to protect local industries, enforce government trade policies and prevent revenue losses caused by illegal imports.

The command also urged traders and other stakeholders to comply with customs regulations and support efforts to facilitate legitimate trade while strengthening revenue generation for the government.
