CUSTOMS, COMMUNICATION EXPERTS STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP
The Nigeria Customs Service has agreed to deepen its partnership with the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria to improve media engagement, digital communication and professional development.
The development followed a meeting between the NCS and members of the ACSPN executive at the Customs headquarters in Abuja.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, said effective communication was essential to helping the public understand institutional reforms.
Maiwada highlighted the service’s use of its monthly newsletter, social media platforms and data analytics to communicate its activities and engage stakeholders. He also disclosed plans to expand the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network to Lagos.
The NCS is also considering corporate membership of ACSPN and plans to encourage its public relations officers to join the association to strengthen professional development and knowledge sharing.
ACSPN President, Prof. Rotimi Olatunji, welcomed the proposed partnership and offered the association’s support to Customs personnel seeking higher academic and professional qualifications.
He also called for closer cooperation between communication scholars and media practitioners to tackle misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content, including deepfakes.
Olatunji urged media organisations to strengthen fact-checking as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
