CUSTOMS COLLECTS N4.30TN IN SIX MONTHS

The Nigeria Customs Service collected N4.30tn in revenue between January and June 2026, representing 36.4 per cent of its N11.074tn target for the year.

The revenue performance was reviewed at the 65th Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele.

The N4.30tn collected in the first half of the year leaves Customs with about N6.77tn to raise during the remaining six months if it is to meet its full-year target. The 2026 target is significantly higher than the N6.584tn target set for 2025.

The board also approved the confirmation of one Deputy Comptroller-General and five Assistant Comptroller-Generals following the statutory retirement of some officers.

Constantine Dim was confirmed as Deputy Comptroller-General, while Pascal Chibuoke, Sani Yahaya, Franklin Onyeka, Chibuzor Eyakwaire and Ethelbert Nnaji were confirmed as Assistant Comptroller-Generals.

The appointments were made in line with the Federal Character Policy provided under the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

Customs is expected to intensify revenue collection and improve trade facilitation in the second half of the year as it works towards achieving its annual target.
