CROSS RIVER GETS NEW HIGH-CAPACITY CNG STATION

HBM Nigeria Plc has inaugurated a high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas station at its Mfamosing cement plant in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The facility, which was officially unveiled on August 31, is designed to support the company’s logistics operations and reduce the cost of transporting goods.

In its first phase, the station can supply CNG to up to 150 trucks daily and has an installed capacity of 144,000 standard cubic metres per day. It is equipped with two pumps and four dispensing points and is designed to operate around the clock.

HBM Nigeria’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the investment was driven by the need to reduce energy and logistics costs while promoting cleaner energy use.

He said the company had used CNG in its logistics operations for about nine years but was now expanding its deployment on a larger scale.

The company plans to commence the second phase of the project by October 2026, increasing the station’s capacity to serve about 250 trucks daily.

The Cross River State Government welcomed the investment, saying it reflected the state’s efforts to attract businesses and support more efficient energy solutions.
