CRISTIANO RONALDO IS A KILLER, ABSOLUTE GENIUS – WAYNE ROONEY CLEARS THE AIR

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has dismissed claims that he dislikes Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting he has nothing but admiration for his former teammate.

Rooney, speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, described the Portuguese icon as a “killer” in front of goal and a “football genius,” while stressing that their bond during their Old Trafford years was stronger than most people realised.

“People think I hate him [Ronaldo]. I love him. I think he’s an absolute genius and what he’s doing is incredible,” Rooney said.
“I love Cristiano and playing with him. I don’t think people realise actually how close me and him were.”

Rooney and Ronaldo shared five successful seasons together under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, lifting multiple trophies including three consecutive Premier League titles and the 2008 UEFA Champions League.

The former England captain admitted that his past comments favouring Lionel Messi over Ronaldo have often been misinterpreted as personal criticism.

“I think just because I’ve said that I think Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don’t like Cristiano. Ronaldo’s a killer, and people think because I’ve said Messi is better than Ronaldo, I don’t like him or speak down on him.”

The only time the pair appeared to clash publicly came during the 2006 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, when Rooney was sent off against Portugal. Ronaldo, who was accused of influencing the referee’s decision, was caught on camera winking after the incident—sparking speculation of a rift.

However, Rooney has now clarified that their relationship was never strained, and he continues to hold Ronaldo in the highest regard.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
