COVENANT UNIVERSITY IS “GOD’S OWN NEW-GENERATION HARVARD,” SAYS CHANCELLOR BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO
Living Faith Church founder highlights institution’s expanding global footprint, spiritual foundations, and academic growth during 24th Founders’ Day thanksgiving celebrations
The Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Bishop David Oyedepo, has declared the institution as “God’s own new-generation Harvard,” expressing strong confidence in its trajectory toward global academic preeminence and societal impact.
Speaking during the university’s 24th Founders’ Day Thanksgiving service at its Hebron campus in Ogun State, Oyedepo attributed the institution’s rapid rise and international visibility to divine faithfulness, continuous research expansion, and an unwavering commitment to its spiritual core.
Reflecting on the university's inception, the cleric recalled spiritual encounters from February 2002 that laid the groundwork for establishing an alternative, high-quality higher education framework in Nigeria designed to raise globally competitive leaders and innovators. He emphasized that thanksgiving remains a source of spiritual strength and institutional resilience against operational challenges.
Also addressing the gathering, the Pro-Chancellor, Pastor Faith Oyedepo, and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, highlighted key academic milestones, including the introduction of professional degree programs in Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Mechatronics, as well as strong performances in international university rankings.
Oyedepo charged the students and alumni to remain grounded in godly discipline and personal integrity, maintaining that Covenant University will continue to produce pioneering discoveries and graduates capable of addressing critical national and global challenges.
