A court in Anambra has ordered the remand of a popular native doctor over alleged violations of the state’s security laws.

The suspect was arraigned before the court on charges linked to activities said to contravene recent security measures introduced by the Anambra State Government as part of efforts to combat crime and restore public order.

Prosecutors told the court that investigations connected the accused to actions allegedly inconsistent with provisions of the state’s security regulations, though full details of the allegations were not immediately disclosed.

Following the arraignment, the court ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody pending further proceedings and consideration of bail applications.

The case comes amid intensified enforcement of security policies in Anambra, where authorities have stepped up actions against individuals and groups suspected of contributing to criminal activities.

Government officials maintain that the measures are necessary to tackle insecurity, while rights advocates continue to call for strict adherence to due process and the rule of law.

The matter was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
