COURT HALTS PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION OVER LAMIDO’S EXCLUSION
The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its national convention scheduled for this weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Delivering judgment, Justice Peter Lifu also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or recognizing any convention conducted without including former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, as a contestant.
The court held that:
Lamido was unjustly prevented from obtaining the nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman.
The action violated both the PDP’s Constitution and internal regulations.
The party has an obligation to create opportunities for its members to aspire to leadership positions.
As part of the ruling, PDP must:
Reopen the process for Lamido to obtain the nomination form.
Allow him time to mobilize supporters,
Enable him to run his campaign before any convention can proceed.
