An Abuja division of the Federal High Court has granted former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, bail in the sum of N200 million each in their ongoing trial over alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.

The charges were filed by the Department of State Services.

Delivering her ruling on Friday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that the defendants be remanded at Kuje Prison until they meet the bail conditions set by the court.

The bail applications were argued by their lead counsel, Joseph Daudu. The court directed that each defendant must present two sureties, with at least one surety required to own landed property in either Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja. The property titles are to be deposited with the court’s deputy chief registrar alongside valid international passports.

The sureties must also file affidavits of means and submit two recent passport photographs to the court. In addition, both defendants were ordered to surrender their international passports and recent passport photographs.

Justice Abdulmalik fixed March 4 for the commencement of trial.

The DSS had arraigned Malami and his son on a five-count charge bordering on alleged terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. According to the charge, Malami is accused of knowingly aiding terrorism financing in November 2022 by allegedly refusing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were forwarded to his office while serving as Attorney-General.

They are further accused of possessing, without licence, a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, sixteen Redstar AAA live cartridges, and twenty-seven expended cartridges at their residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, in December 2025. The offences are said to contravene provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act, 2004.
