COURT DISMISSES SUIT AGAINST AKPABIO, SENATE OVER NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN’S SUSPENSION
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the legality of the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, from the Senate.
The case, filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Senate, was instituted by Ovavu Illiyasu and nine others.
The plaintiffs, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/654/2025, asked the court to declare the suspension invalid, arguing that it shortchanged their senatorial district of representation in the National Assembly.
However, in his ruling on Friday, Justice Omotosho dismissed the case, holding that the applicants lacked locus standi— the legal authority to bring the matter before the court.
The judge ruled that “the plaintiffs have no sufficient interest or legal right affected by the suspension to warrant instituting the action.”
Consequently, the court dismissed the suit for lack of merit.
The ruling effectively upholds the Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over alleged misconduct and breach of parliamentary rules.
