COURT CONVICTS TWO WOMEN FOR RECRUITING MINOR AND FACILITATING TRAVEL FOR PROSTITUTION IN JOS
A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has convicted two women — Ishaya Joy and Sule Loisinta — for offences related to human trafficking and the exploitation of a minor.
The duo was found guilty of recruiting a person under the age of 18 for prostitution, facilitating foreign travel to promote prostitution, and conspiring to engage in such activities. These crimes violate Sections 16, 18, and 27 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
Justice D.V. Agushi, who presided over the case, ruled that the evidence presented in court clearly established the participation of both women in the illicit recruitment and travel facilitation scheme.
The court’s decision reinforces Nigeria’s ongoing fight against human trafficking, especially cases involving minors who are often lured into dangerous and exploitative situations under false promises of jobs or better opportunities abroad.
While details of their sentencing are expected to be communicated, the conviction serves as another warning to traffickers and individuals involved in illegal recruitment networks.
Human rights groups continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may put vulnerable individuals — especially minors — at risk of exploitation.
