Copper Intelligence Inc. is advancing exploration at its Butembo Copper Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo after promising results from its initial drilling programme.

The US-listed exploration company said the first six drill holes confirmed significant near-surface copper mineralisation, including an interval of 7.55 metres grading 5.39 per cent copper from the surface. The drilling also extended the known mineralised structure by more than 300 metres.

The company’s Chairman, Andrew Groves, said further drilling results were expected as exploration continues. He disclosed that the mineralised strike length had now expanded to about 1,400 metres, with the mineralised zone potentially widening to between 75 and 100 metres.

Groves said the company was continuing to drill additional holes to better understand the width and continuity of the deposit. The programme has so far progressed to the 13th hole, with three more expected to be completed shortly.

The project’s location also provides access to road transport through Uganda and onward to the Port of Mombasa for exports, while available power in the region could support future processing operations.

Copper Intelligence said further exploration would be required before the commercial potential of the deposit could be fully determined.
