Good news for households! The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has recorded a slight drop across Nigeria.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its July 2025 LPG Price Watch, the average cost of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder fell to ₦20,609.48, down from ₦21,010.56 in June. This represents a 1.19% decrease month-on-month.

However, compared to last year, the price of cooking gas is still significantly higher. On a year-on-year basis, the average price rose by 44.51%, from ₦14,261.57 in July 2024.

The NBS report also revealed that:

Imo, Delta, and Rivers States recorded the highest LPG prices in July.

Kebbi, Nasarawa, and Kwara States had the lowest prices during the period.

Meanwhile, checks in Abuja and surrounding areas as of September 1, 2025, show that the average price for 12.5kg of gas has dropped further to about ₦15,000, offering some relief to residents battling high living costs.

This decline, though modest, is a welcome development for families already struggling with rising food prices and other household expenses.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
