The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has remained stable at about N1,200 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A market survey on Monday revealed that LPG vendors in Abuja sell the product between N1,200 and N1,500 per litre, depending on the area.

According to a vendor in Gwarimpa, Uche Chinedu, a 12.5-kilogram cylinder of cooking gas currently sells for N15,000.

“We sell at N1,200 per litre, which amounts to N15,000 for 12.5 kg; at filling stations, it goes for around N1,090 per litre,” he said.

In areas such as Dawaki, Dutse, and Kubwa, the price of LPG was found to range between N1,200 and N1,400 per litre. However, a vendor in Lugbe disclosed that the product sells for as high as N1,500 per kilogram.

This price stability in the FCT contrasts with the situation in parts of Lagos, where the cost of LPG reportedly increased to between N1,700 and N2,000 per kilogram.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, attributed the recent price surge to temporary supply disruptions resulting from a disagreement between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Dangote Refinery last week.

Ojulari described the price increase as “artificial” and assured that cooking gas prices would soon stabilise as supply normalises across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
