CONTAINER TRUCK CRASHES INTO BROKEN-DOWN LAWMA VEHICLE IN LAGOS

A 20-foot container truck has crashed into a broken-down Lagos Waste Management Authority vehicle at Apakun, inward Iyana-Isolo, Lagos State. The incident occurred overnight and was reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Thursday, with the agency also releasing a video showing the scene of the accident.

According to LASTMA, its rescue team was immediately deployed to the location following the crash. The agency also activated a crane and a high-capacity tow truck to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the affected section of the road, with the aim of restoring normal traffic movement along the busy route.

LASTMA said the casualty recorded in the accident had been taken to hospital for treatment. However, the agency did not disclose the identity of the casualty or provide details about the extent of the injuries sustained. PUNCH Online also reported that it could not independently establish the condition of the victim or confirm whether the person was dead or alive at the time of reporting.

The incident has again drawn attention to the risks posed by heavy-duty vehicles and road obstructions across Lagos. A broken-down truck or other vehicle left on a busy carriageway can create a serious hazard for approaching motorists, particularly at night when visibility may be reduced. Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists and operators of heavy vehicles to follow safety procedures and ensure that broken-down vehicles are properly marked and removed from the road as quickly as possible.
