CONSTITUTION REVIEW: EMIR SANUSI BACKS KANO GOVERNMENT’S POSITION 100%
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has pledged full support for any position the Kano State Government adopts regarding the ongoing constitutional amendment—provided it reflects the will of the people.
Speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitution Amendment held on Thursday, Sanusi praised the state government for involving citizens in the reform process. He assured that the traditional institution would review the draft proposals and offer its suggestions before the final submission.
“For us as Emirs, whatever the government decides in consultation with the people will be the position of Kano, and we will support it 100%,” he stated.
Sanusi encouraged other stakeholders to also study the draft thoroughly and make their inputs known before the Saturday deadline. According to him, this will ensure the final document reflects a wide range of views and truly represents the people’s aspirations.
The high-level dialogue, hosted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, brought together key political figures and traditional leaders, including NNPP national leader Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and top lawmakers. Discussions at the event focused on how to make Nigeria’s constitution more inclusive, fair, and responsive to grassroots needs.
The Emir’s backing gives strong moral and cultural weight to the state’s constitutional reform efforts, marking a unified front between traditional rulers and political leaders in Kano.
