COMPASSION FOR OGUN PEOPLE PROMPTED MY DEFECTION TO PDP — IYABO OBASANJO

Former Senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, has explained that her defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was driven by deep compassion for the people of Ogun State and a desire to contribute more effectively to their welfare.

Senator Obasanjo made the revelation on Friday during a grand reception organised in her honour by the PDP in Abeokuta. She said her decision was not based on personal ambition but on the need to align with a party she believes can deliver good governance and address the yearnings of the people.

“I left the APC because I have compassion for the people of Ogun State. I want to work with a platform that can bring real development and alleviate the suffering of our citizens. This is not about me; it is about serving the people better,” she stated.

The former senator, who is the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was received with enthusiasm by PDP leaders and members across the state. The PDP State Chairman, Hon. Samson Bamgbose, described her defection as a major boost to the party’s fortunes ahead of future elections.

“Senator Iyabo Obasanjo is a woman of integrity and experience. Her joining the PDP will strengthen our resolve to rescue Ogun State and provide quality leadership,” Bamgbose said.
