COMMUNITY LEADER CRIES OUT AS BANDITS TAKE OVER 7 VILLAGES IN PLATEAU
“Our People Are Roaming in the Wilderness” — Plateau Leader Raises Alarm Over Bandit Takeover of 7 Villages
A traditional leader in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Da Yohana Margif, has sounded the alarm over the occupation of seven villages in his Mushere Chiefdom by armed Fulani militants.
In a public appeal made on Friday, Da Margif revealed that the communities of Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif have been taken over by attackers who displaced the native residents through a series of violent raids. According to him, the attacks, which have been ongoing for over three months, have claimed lives and driven thousands into displacement camps.
“Our people are not just displaced; they’re living on rocks, wandering the wilderness, while the invaders live comfortably on our ancestral lands,” he lamented.
He alleged that after each attack, the Fulani militants rename the villages, erect tents, and allow their cattle to graze freely on farmlands — even as they carry weapons openly without any form of resistance from law enforcement.
The community leader is calling on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene. He stressed that the identity of the invaders is known and urged authorities to act swiftly so that displaced villagers can return to their homes in peace.
“This is not just a land issue,” he said. “It’s about justice, protection, and the right of our people to live without fear.”
The growing crisis in Plateau State continues to raise national concerns, as affected communities cry out for meaningful action to end the violence and restore normalcy.
