The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, on Friday, inaugurated three renovated blocks of family flats for soldiers at the Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that each of the three blocks contains 30 flats, bringing the total to 90 family flats for soldiers and their families.

Shu’aibu, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, said the renovation aligns with the Army’s commitment to improving personnel welfare.

He explained that the flats had previously been occupied but deteriorated over time, necessitating the relocation of residents to allow for renovation.

“I approved the funds for the project as part of the vision to prioritise soldiers’ welfare and enhance their living conditions,” he said.

He added that the project is one of several renovation efforts carried out across various formations, with additional projects ongoing and new accommodation blocks under construction to address housing deficits.

The Army chief urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of residents of Block 20, Mrs. Fumilayo Yonde commended the Army leadership for the intervention.

She described the pre-renovation condition of the building as deplorable, noting that occupants lived in fear due to falling debris from the structure.

Yonde assured that residents would properly maintain the facility and prayed for continued success for the Army leadership.

According to NAN, the renovation projects were completed within three months.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
