COAS TASKS ARMY COMMANDERS ON STRONGER LEADERSHIP, INTENSIFIED FIGHT AGAINST INSECURITY

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged commanders across the Nigerian Army to strengthen their leadership and remain committed to the fight against insecurity. He urged them to provide clear direction to their troops while ensuring that military operations are conducted with professionalism and discipline.

Oluyede stressed that effective leadership remains critical to the success of military operations, particularly as troops continue to confront terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats in different parts of the country. He called on commanders to demonstrate courage, accountability and sound judgement in carrying out their responsibilities.

The Army chief also emphasised the importance of maintaining the morale and welfare of personnel. According to him, commanders must create an environment that enables soldiers to remain focused and motivated while carrying out operations in challenging and sometimes dangerous conditions.

He further urged the commanders to improve coordination and cooperation among security agencies and other relevant stakeholders. Stronger collaboration, intelligence sharing and effective deployment of available resources, he noted, would help the military respond more efficiently to emerging security threats.

The directive comes as the Nigerian military continues operations against criminal and insurgent groups across several parts of the country. Recent military operations have also resulted in the surrender of members of terrorist groups, alongside ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace in affected communities.

Oluyede urged commanders to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities and ensure that troops operate within the law. He maintained that stronger leadership at all levels of command would be essential to sustaining military successes and improving security across the country.
