COAS: CITIZENS KEY TO WINNING SECURITY WAR

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has emphasised that the active involvement of citizens is crucial in the fight against insecurity and the restoration of peace across Nigeria.

Speaking at a security stakeholders’ meeting, the COAS urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, cooperate with troops during operations, and reject any form of collaboration with criminals. “Winning the security war requires the collective effort of the military and the citizenry. No one can do it alone,” Oluyede said.

He highlighted recent successes in various operations, attributing them to improved community collaboration and intelligence sharing. The army chief also called for sustained support from traditional rulers and community leaders in sensitising residents.

The message comes as the military continues aggressive campaigns against bandits, insurgents, and other criminal elements in different parts of the country.

Security experts have welcomed the call for greater citizen participation, noting that it is essential for long-term peace and stability.
