COAS CALLS FOR STRONGER AFRICAN MILITARY ALLIANCE AGAINST TERRORISM

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has called for a stronger military alliance among African nations to effectively combat the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism across the continent.

Speaking at a regional security conference, the COAS emphasised the need for enhanced intelligence sharing, joint operations, and capacity building to address transnational threats that transcend national borders. “Terrorism knows no boundaries. Our response must be collective and coordinated,” Oluyede stated.

He proposed the establishment of more robust frameworks for collaboration, including standardised training programmes and resource pooling. The Nigerian Army has been actively involved in multinational operations in the Lake Chad region and other hotspots.

The call has been welcomed by defence chiefs from several African countries, who agreed on the importance of unity in tackling common security challenges.

The conference concluded with a commitment to deepen military partnerships and explore new strategies for regional peace and stability.
