CHILD CUSTODY: DRAMA AS DAVIDO MISTAKES GOSPEL SINGER TOSIN BEE FOR LAWYER’S SON
Afrobeats star, Davido, has come under scrutiny online after mistakenly directing his anger at Nigerian gospel artiste, Tosin Bee, following heated child custody proceedings.
The controversy stems from Davido’s ongoing legal battle with his estranged partner, Sophia Momodu, over the custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke.
During proceedings at the Lagos State High Court, Yaba, on Thursday, Davido reportedly clashed with a lawyer identified as Ebelechukwu Enedah, who is representing Momodu. In a now-viral Instagram post on Friday, the singer criticised the lawyer, expressing outrage over remarks allegedly made in court concerning his deceased son.
“@Belachukwu, I disgraced you in the courtroom. I was teaching you your work, you couldn’t even take it, and then went on to mention my son,” he wrote.
He continued, “You are a wicked human being. You are the worst lawyer ever. I beat you in court. You are not learned.”
Shortly after, Davido mistakenly reposted a post from Tosin Bee to his Instagram story, apparently assuming a connection between the gospel singer and the lawyer. In the now-deleted post, he made disparaging remarks directed at the artiste.
The repost triggered backlash, with some social media users targeting Tosin Bee’s page.
Responding to the wave of reactions, Tosin Bee clarified that he had no connection to the lawyer and described the incident as mistaken identity.
“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago. I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you, brother,” he said.
Following his clarification, several users called for Davido to issue a public apology, while others described the incident as an unfortunate emotional outburst.
Later on Friday, Davido announced via X that he would withdraw the custody case, stating that he had only sought joint custody, not full custody.
“I never asked for full custody. I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost, but Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
He added that he decided to drop the case after what he described as a “lowest blow” in court, referencing the mention of his deceased son.
In the suit marked LD/1587PMC/2024 and dated April 17, 2024, Davido had sought an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke or, alternatively, unfettered access to her.
Despite the legal dispute, Imade has continued to spend time with her father, suggesting some level of co-parenting arrangement between the parties.
