CHELSEA’S MOVE FOR AJAX STAR JORREL HATO HITS £52M ROADBLOCK
Chelsea’s plans to sign Ajax defender Jorrel Hato have hit a major snag after the Dutch club demanded a hefty transfer fee of up to £52 million.
The 19-year-old Dutch international is reportedly eager to make the move to the Premier League and has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea. He was also left out of Ajax’s squad for their recent pre-season win against Celtic, adding fuel to exit rumours.
However, despite Hato’s clear interest in joining the Blues, negotiations between both clubs have stalled. Chelsea’s opening bid was £34.7 million, far below Ajax’s asking price of £47.7m to £52m, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.
With the 2025/26 Premier League season fast approaching, Chelsea are racing against time to finalize the deal. The West London club is eager to strengthen their defence, and Hato is seen as a key part of that plan.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will return with an improved offer to get the deal over the line, or if Ajax’s valuation will prove too steep.
