CHELSEA TO WEAR GOLD BADGE FOR FOUR YEARS AFTER CLUB WORLD CUP TRIUMPH OVER PSG
Chelsea fans have even more reason to celebrate after their team’s stunning 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final on Sunday — the Blues will now proudly wear a special gold badge on their shirts for the next four years.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show, netting two brilliant goals in the first 30 minutes to put Chelsea firmly in control. He later turned provider, setting up Joao Pedro to delicately chip the ball over PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, sealing a memorable victory.
Aside from lifting the newly-designed trophy and pocketing a whopping £100 million in prize money, Chelsea have also earned the prestigious FIFA gold champions badge — but this time, they get to wear it much longer than any club before.
Previously, the badge was only worn for a single year by the reigning champions. Liverpool, for instance, were allowed to wear it just once in a Premier League game after their 2019 triumph.
However, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s new revamp of the tournament — which will now be held every four years — Chelsea will get to showcase their gold badge until the next edition of the competition.
The move is not just a boost for Chelsea’s brand but also a huge point of pride for fans, who can now look forward to seeing their team’s shirts shining with the ultimate mark of global football success for the next four seasons.
