CHELSEA PROSPECT LANDON EMENALO JOINS CELTIC ON SEASON-LONG LOAN

Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo has completed a move to Scottish champions Celtic on loan for the 2026/27 season, giving the highly rated defender an opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience away from Stamford Bridge.

The 18-year-old left-back is the son of former Super Eagles defender and Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo. Landon has developed through the academy systems of Monaco and Chelsea and has progressed into the club's Under-21 setup in recent seasons.

Celtic confirmed the loan move as part of their late transfer activity, with the Scottish champions bringing in the young defender to strengthen their options while also providing him with an environment to continue his development.

Emenalo has been regarded as one of the promising young players within Chelsea's academy and has also been involved around the first-team setup. His temporary switch to Scotland is expected to expose him to senior-level football and a different competitive environment as he continues his progression.

The move also adds another chapter to the footballing connection between the Emenalo family and Chelsea. Michael Emenalo enjoyed a professional career as a left-back and represented Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup before later taking up an influential technical role at Chelsea.

Like his father, Landon plays primarily as a left-back, although his international eligibility is more complicated. Born in Tucson, Arizona, he is eligible to represent the United States, while his appearances for England's youth teams have also made him eligible for England. Through his Nigerian father, he can also represent Nigeria.

The youngster has represented England at several youth levels and has also featured for the United States Under-17 side. His international background therefore leaves open several possibilities for his senior international career as he develops.

For Celtic, Emenalo's arrival represents an investment in youth and an opportunity to assess the Chelsea prospect in competitive Scottish football. For Chelsea, the loan should give the teenager regular exposure to senior football that could accelerate his development and help prepare him for a potential future role at the Premier League club.

Emenalo will now spend the 2026/27 campaign with Celtic, where he will look to establish himself, gain valuable experience and continue his development before returning to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell.
