ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot created by OpenAI, is currently facing a major outage, with users around the world reporting issues accessing the service.

The disruption began around 9:00 AM WAT, causing many users to turn to social media to share their frustration about the sudden downtime.

According to the monitoring site Downdetector, there was a sharp increase in reports of problems early Tuesday, showing that the issue is affecting users in many different countries.

OpenAI confirmed the problem on its status page, saying some users were experiencing “elevated error rates and latency.” The outage is affecting not just ChatGPT, but also the company’s Sora tool (used for generating videos from text) and its API services.

By 11:23 AM WAT, OpenAI posted another update, stating that there were still high error rates with Sora and that the ChatGPT issue was now considered a “partial outage.”

Some users say they can still access ChatGPT, but it’s much slower than usual and responses are delayed.

OpenAI says it is still looking into the problem. The exact cause is unknown, and there’s no clear timeline yet for when everything will be back to normal.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
