CHAOS AT TEJUOSHO MARKET: 18 ARRESTED AFTER POWER OUTAGE SPARKS VIOLENCE
Tejuosho Market in Surulere, Lagos, witnessed a sudden outbreak of violence on Thursday, September 18, 2025, after a power outage reportedly triggered unrest among traders and hoodlums.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, a group of suspected hoodlums hijacked the protest, vandalising parts of a commercial bank inside the market and even attempting to attack policemen stationed there. However, officers of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) quickly repelled the attack, preventing the intruders from breaking into the bank and the market police post.
In a statement, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babasuyi Oluseyi, confirmed that 18 suspects were arrested during the chaos. Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also deployed more tactical squads to restore peace and ensure trading activities resumed swiftly.
The Police Command has since warned against violent attacks on security personnel and destruction of property, vowing to prosecute those involved.
