CHAN 2025: NIGERIA, BURKINA FASO, AND CAR ELIMINATED FROM TOURNAMENT

The 2025 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) has seen the exit of at least three countries from the competition: Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic (CAR).

The eliminations followed Wednesday’s fixtures, where Madagascar defeated CAR and Mauritania beat Burkina Faso, confirming the exits of the two countries. Nigeria had already been eliminated after a 4-0 loss to Sudan.

Although Burkina Faso, CAR, and Nigeria each have one game remaining, the results will not change their fate in this year’s CHAN. Burkina Faso and CAR, both in Group B, currently have three and zero points, respectively. Meanwhile, Tanzania and Mauritania lead the group with nine and seven points, making it mathematically impossible for the eliminated teams to advance.

Nigeria, in Group D, sits at the bottom with zero points after losses to both Sudan and Senegal. Sudan and Senegal lead the group with four points each, leaving Nigeria out of contention despite one remaining match.

As the tournament progresses, attention now turns to the teams still competing for a spot in the knockout stages, while fans of the eliminated nations are left reflecting on a disappointing CHAN campaign.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
