CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: MBAPPé OVERTAKES RONALDO’S RECORD WITH HAT-TRICK FOR REAL MADRID
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has written his name into the history books once again, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record after netting a stunning hat-trick against Kairat in the UEFA Champions League.
The France captain opened the scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty spot after teenage teammate Franco Mastantuono was fouled in the box. He doubled his tally in the second half before completing his hat-trick in the 73rd minute to seal a memorable night at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Mbappé’s three goals mean he has now joined an elite group of only six players to have scored 60 goals or more in Champions League history.
Remarkably, the 26-year-old reached the milestone in just 89 games — nine games fewer than Ronaldo, who needed 98 appearances to score 60 goals in the competition.
Mbappé now sits alongside some of the greatest names in European football, trailing only Lionel Messi (80 games) and Robert Lewandowski (85 games) in the race to the 60-goal mark.
The former PSG and Monaco star continues to strengthen his legacy as one of the most lethal forwards of his generation, with many tipping him to eventually break the all-time Champions League scoring record.
