CBN INTRODUCES NEW POS RULES, LIMITS TRANSACTIONS TO ₦1.2M DAILY
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced new regulations for Point of Sale (POS) operations across the country as part of its updated agent banking framework.
According to the circular signed by the Director of Payments System Management Department, Musa Jimoh, each POS agent will now be allowed a maximum of ₦1.2 million in transactions per day, while individual customers will be limited to ₦100,000 daily.
The CBN also directed all financial institutions to publish the list of their registered POS agents on their official websites and make them available at their branches.
The new guidelines, which aim to strengthen financial inclusion and ensure responsible market conduct, will take effect from April 1, 2026.
“The guidelines are designed to set minimum standards for agent banking operations, enhance service quality, and maintain financial integrity within the sector,” the statement read.
The apex bank explained that the transaction limits are intended to prevent misuse, promote transparency, and safeguard consumers within the agent banking system.
