CATHOLIC DIOCESE CONFIRMS ATTACK, MASS KIDNAPPING AT ST. MARY’S SCHOOLS IN NIGER STATE
The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has confirmed a deadly attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, where armed assailants kidnapped students, teachers, and a security guard.
According to an official statement from the Diocese, the attack occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on November 21, 2025, plunging the school community into fear and chaos.
The church revealed that one security personnel was severely shot during the incident.
Diocese Condemns Attack
The Diocese described the assault as “deeply troubling,” expressing strong concern for the safety of the abducted children, staff, and their families.
It stated that security agencies were immediately notified and have since launched a coordinated rescue operation.
The Bishop assured the public that the Church is actively collaborating with security authorities, community leaders, and relevant government officials to facilitate the victims’ safe return.
Call for Calm and Cooperation
The Diocese urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading panic, and support efforts aimed at rescuing the victims.
“The Diocese calls on the public to remain calm, support security efforts, and continue praying for the safe and quick return of all abducted,” the statement read.
It added that more updates will be provided as verified information emerges.
The statement ended with a prayer for divine intervention:
“May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all danger.”
