CARRICK CAN STABILISE MAN UNITED BUT WON’T WIN EPL — CARRAGHER

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has said he does not believe Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has what it takes to win the Premier League or Champions League with the club.

Carrick took permanent charge of United after initially serving as interim manager and guided the club to third place last season, securing Champions League qualification.

However, Carragher believes Carrick can help restore stability at Old Trafford and establish United as a regular Champions League club, but questioned whether he possesses the qualities needed to win the biggest trophies.

Carragher said Carrick has helped United avoid the constant controversy and instability that had surrounded the club, describing this as an important step in rebuilding the team.

He said, “I personally just don’t think Michael Carrick’s got that stardust as a manager to win a Champions League or a Premier League.”

Carragher added that he did not expect Carrick to win either competition with United but praised the manager for the progress he has made.

He suggested Carrick could have a strong season and put United in a position to eventually appoint a manager capable of winning the Champions League.

Carrick has strengthened United’s midfield during the summer transfer window, bringing in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Carragher also questioned United’s decision not to sign former West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham for £85 million.

The former Liverpool defender said he was surprised United did not pursue Fernandes, arguing that top midfielders are unlikely to be available for around £50 million in the current market.

United have lost only one pre-season match, against Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford could remain at Old Trafford, with Carrick indicating that the forward is part of his plans.

United defender Harry Maguire also backed Rashford to stay, describing him as a major asset who can improve the team and pose a significant threat to opponents.
