CANDACE OWENS SUED BY FRENCH PRESIDENT MACRON OVER CLAIM FIRST LADY WAS BORN MALE
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, have filed a defamation lawsuit against U.S. conservative commentator Candace Owens, accusing her of spreading false claims that Brigitte was born male.
The lawsuit, filed in a Delaware court, says Owens launched a campaign of “global humiliation and bullying,” promoting a long-debunked conspiracy theory that Brigitte, 72, was born Jean-Michel Trogneux dared the Macrons to proceed with the case.
“You were born a man and you will die a man,” Owens said in the video. “Give us a sample. I’ll send my doctors to take your blood.”
The Macrons argue that the conspiracy, which has circulated among French far-right circles for years, was pushed into the global spotlight by Owens and has caused them emotional and reputational harm. They are now seeking both compensatory and punitive damages.
Under U.S. law, the Macrons will have to prove “actual malice”—meaning Owens knowingly lied or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
Owens, a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, dismissed the lawsuit as an effort to silence her and said she looked forward to facing them in court.
“I think we owe that to the world,” she said, referring to her desire to reach the discovery phase of the legal process.
The case marks an unusual move by a sitting world leader and spouse taking legal action in a U.S. court.
