CAF APPROVES $100,000 SUPPORT PACKAGE FOR CLUBS EXITING EARLY

The Confederation of African Football has introduced a financial support package for clubs eliminated during the preliminary stages of its inter-club competitions, with each affected club set to receive a $100,000 grant. The move is aimed at providing greater financial assistance to clubs that participate in continental competitions but fail to progress beyond the early qualifying rounds.

CAF said the initiative forms part of efforts to improve the financial sustainability of African club football and provide more support to teams that invest resources in continental campaigns. Many clubs spend heavily on travel, accommodation, player welfare and logistics before even reaching the main stages of competitions, making early elimination a significant financial setback.

Under the new arrangement, clubs knocked out during the preliminary rounds of CAF's major inter-club competitions will benefit from the grant. The financial assistance is expected to help participating teams recover some of the expenses incurred during their continental campaigns and enable them to continue developing their domestic football programmes after their elimination.

The decision is also part of CAF's broader efforts to strengthen club football across the continent and reduce the financial gap between clubs with greater resources and those operating with more limited budgets. By providing direct financial support, the African football governing body hopes to encourage more clubs to participate competitively in continental tournaments and improve the overall standard of African club football.

The grant is expected to be welcomed by clubs, particularly those from countries where football teams face significant financial and logistical challenges when competing outside their domestic leagues. CAF believes the initiative will make continental participation more sustainable while supporting clubs as they continue to develop their squads, infrastructure and administrative structures.
