BURNA BOY SETS NEW YOUTUBE RECORD AS VIEWS SURPASS 4 BILLION

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has added another major achievement to his growing list of career records after surpassing four billion total views on YouTube.

The milestone makes Burna Boy the first Nigerian artist to reach four billion combined views on the video-sharing platform, further highlighting the remarkable international reach of his music and the growing influence of Afrobeats globally. Reports also identify him as the first Sub-Saharan African artist to attain the figure.

The four-billion figure represents the cumulative views generated by videos across the singer’s official YouTube catalogue. It includes some of his biggest songs and music videos, such as “On The Low,” “Ye,” “Last Last” and “For My Hand,” which have each attracted hundreds of millions of views from audiences around the world.

Burna Boy’s latest achievement builds on an earlier YouTube record he set in 2021, when he became the first Nigerian artist to surpass one billion total views on the platform. His latest milestone therefore represents a significant expansion of the audience his catalogue has accumulated over the past several years.

The achievement comes after more than a decade of growth for the Port Harcourt-born musician, who first gained widespread attention following the release of “Like to Party” in 2012. The song appeared on his debut studio album, L.I.F.E – Leaving an Impact for Eternity, released in 2013, and marked the beginning of a career that would eventually take him onto some of the world's biggest music stages.

Since then, Burna Boy has developed a distinctive sound that blends Afrobeats with elements of dancehall, reggae, hip-hop and other international influences. His success has also extended beyond streaming platforms, with the singer establishing himself as one of Africa's most prominent global touring acts.

His international profile received another boost in 2026 through his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira on “Dai Dai,” the official song associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The collaboration placed Burna Boy alongside one of the world's most recognisable pop stars and further connected Nigerian music with a global sporting audience.

The YouTube milestone is the latest in a series of achievements that have strengthened Burna Boy's position as one of the leading figures in the international expansion of African music.

With more than four billion views now accumulated across his catalogue, the singer continues to demonstrate the enormous global demand for his music and the increasingly international audience enjoyed by Nigerian Afrobeats.
