BURNA BOY SAYS HE’S FIGHTING SECRET BATTLES AMID FAN BACKLASH
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has opened up about dealing with personal struggles, following criticism over his recent comments about his fans.
The “Last Last” singer sparked controversy after joking that he doesn’t beg anyone to be his fan and that he only wants wealthy supporters. Many fans interpreted the remark as arrogance, leading to widespread backlash.
Reacting on Instagram, Burna Boy explained that his comment was a joke that was misinterpreted, stressing that he is currently fighting personal battles and does not seek public sympathy. He urged the public to respect his privacy and leave him alone.
He wrote:
"I was joking around with my band about something else, not this situation and y’all have spun it as usual saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans.’ If you hate me so much either kill me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles and I never come out here to look for pity or help. I love who loves me and respect who respects me."
In addition to addressing the fan uproar, Burna Boy also lent his voice to calls for peace, speaking against insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria, Congo, and Sudan.
This revelation highlights the pressures that come with fame and Burna Boy’s plea for understanding as he navigates his personal challenges while continuing to use his platform for advocacy.
