BURNA BOY BREAKS RECORD AS FIRST NIGERIAN ARTIST WITH FIVE GRAMMY-NOMINATED ALBUMS
Nigerian global superstar Burna Boy has once again rewritten history—this time by becoming the first Nigerian singer ever to earn five Grammy nominations for his albums.
The African Giant reached this new milestone after his 2025 project, No Sign of Weakness, earned a nomination for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards.
The category is packed with powerful global entries, including:
Sounds of Kumbha — Siddhant Bhatia
Éclairer le monde: Light the World — Youssou N’Dour
Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live) — Shakti
Chapter III: We Return to Light — Anoushka Shankar, Alam Khan & Sarathy Korwar
Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo — Caetano Veloso & Maria Bethânia
Burna Boy’s previous Grammy-nominated albums include:
African Giant (2019)
Twice As Tall (2020) — which won Best Global Music Album
Love, Damini (2022)
I Told Them (2023)
No Sign of Weakness (2025)
This record-setting streak cements his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential artists on the global stage.
Apart from the album nomination, Burna Boy also bagged a nod in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit song Love.
He isn’t the only Nigerian star shining this year. The category also features:
Davido — With You ft. Omah Lay
Ayra Starr — Gimme Dat
Wizkid — Gimme Dat
Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin — Hope & Love
Tyla — Push 2 Start
The strong Nigerian presence highlights the growing dominance of Afrobeats and African music worldwide.
The winners will be announced at the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles next year.
