Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retd.), has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, senior government officials and military leaders for their support during the public presentation of a book documenting his tenure in the Nigerian Army. The book, titled Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, was presented on September 16, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Asokoro, Abuja.

Buratai, who also served as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Republic of Benin, said the event demonstrated the importance of preserving the country’s military history and institutional memory. In a statement issued by retired Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, he thanked the dignitaries, military officers, traditional rulers, diplomats, academics and other guests who attended and contributed to the success of the presentation.

The former Army chief expressed particular appreciation to President Tinubu, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, for his support and message at the event. He also thanked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for facilitating the Federal Government’s participation, while acknowledging Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), who presented the book and spoke about the leadership period documented in the publication.

Buratai also recognised the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the service chiefs for their representation at the event. They included Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke. He said their participation reflected the importance of maintaining institutional memory within the Armed Forces and documenting experiences that could be useful to future generations.

The former Army chief further commended the author, Dr M.S. Abubakar, for his work on the publication and appreciated the contributions of military officers, academics, traditional rulers and international guests. He also thanked the Buratai Legacy Presentation Committee, the publishers and media professionals who supported the event. Buratai said the successful presentation was the result of collective efforts and expressed hope that the lessons contained in the book would contribute to the development of Nigeria and its Armed Forces.
