BUHARI LIVED A SIMPLE, IMPACTFUL LIFE — AIYEDATIWA MOURNS EX-PRESIDENT
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader who lived a life marked by prudence, contentment, and genuine impact.
In a heartfelt condolence message on Monday, Aiyedatiwa expressed deep sadness over Buhari’s passing, noting that Nigeria had lost a patriot whose simplicity and integrity stood out throughout his years of service.
Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82 in a London hospital, served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, after first ruling as military head of state between 1984 and 1985.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who titled his statement “President Buhari: A Patriot Exits The Stage,” said Buhari’s life was an example of discipline and modesty.
“Former President Buhari lived a fulfilled life. He was audacious, prudent, contented, strong-willed and compassionate,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He recalled Buhari’s lively spirit and sense of humor, sharing how the late president lightened the mood even during tense discussions.
“President Buhari was a man who valued his integrity and couldn’t hide his feelings. He was jocular and could make anyone smile even in difficult situations. This, he displayed when I, alongside other progressive governors, met him in Sokoto three months ago,” he added.
The Ondo governor extended his sympathies to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, and Buhari’s immediate family, urging them to find comfort in the impactful life the late leader lived.
Aiyedatiwa’s tribute captures the sentiments of many Nigerians reflecting on Buhari’s long years in public service — as a soldier, head of state, and later as an elected president — all marked by a consistent emphasis on discipline and national duty.
