The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly adhere to the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to strengthen budget credibility and promote fiscal discipline across public institutions.

The directive was issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during a courtesy visit by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in Abuja. He emphasized that compliance with the framework is vital for accountability in public spending and maintaining a stable fiscal environment.

“MTEF adherence is critical for a coordinated and disciplined fiscal environment that supports economic growth,” Akume said. He added that the framework ensures government spending reflects national priorities and development goals, promoting predictability and sustainability in budgeting processes.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Victor Chinmerem Muruako, commended ongoing fiscal reforms and lauded the administration’s policy direction, noting that current reforms provide strong support for the commission’s oversight responsibilities.

The government stated that stricter compliance with the MTEF is expected to enhance financial management in public institutions, strengthen fiscal responsibility, and ensure that national resources are effectively aligned with development needs.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
