Zenith Bank Plc, proud sponsors of Nigeria’s Women’s Premier Basketball League, has encouraged the national team, D’Tigress, to push forward and retain their AfroBasket crown.

D’Tigress began their title defense in dominant fashion with a 92–45 win over Rwanda, followed by a hard-fought 65–60 victory against Mozambique under head coach Rena Wakama. These wins have secured Nigeria a spot in the quarter-finals, where they will face either Angola or Cameroon based on final group standings.

Speaking on the team’s performance, Zenith Bank CEO and Group Managing Director, Dame Adaora Umeoji, praised the players’ strong start and determination.

“We’ve been following the team closely, and it was thrilling to see Murjanatu Musa—MVP of our annual Zenith Bank League—shine in the opening game. Their resilience in the second match was commendable and truly reflective of a champion’s spirit,” Umeoji said.

“As the tournament progresses, the challenge intensifies, but we have confidence in your ability to uphold the Nigerian spirit and reclaim the title. We are proud of you all—especially those who came through our league system. This is our flagship sports initiative, and you continue to make us proud.”

Following a training session in Côte d’Ivoire on Tuesday, team member Ifunaya Okoro reaffirmed D’Tigress’s commitment, stating they will continue to give their best throughout the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket tournament.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
