BRIGHTON COMPLETE STUNNING COMEBACK AS CARABAO CUP ROUND DELIVERS DRAMA
Brighton & Hove Albion produced the biggest result of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup action after coming from two goals down to defeat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford. United raced into an early lead through Shea Lacey and Mason Mount, but Brighton responded before half-time through Charalampos Kostoulas before Pascal Groß and Maxim De Cuyper completed the comeback in the second half.
The defeat ended Manchester United’s hopes of winning the Carabao Cup this season and extended a difficult period for Michael Carrick’s side. United appeared to be in control after scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes, but Brighton gradually turned the game around and took advantage of defensive weaknesses to secure a place in the fourth round.
Aston Villa also advanced after defeating Coventry City 3-1 away from home. Tammy Abraham scored twice for Unai Emery’s side, while Ross Barkley added another goal to put Villa in control. Coventry briefly levelled through Victor Torp, but Villa regained the lead before Abraham scored his second to seal the victory.
Everton secured a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park, with Charly Alcaraz scoring the decisive goal in the 80th minute. The result sent Everton into the next round, while Fleetwood Town produced another surprise by defeating Championship side Sheffield United 1-0, with Rhys Norrington-Davies scoring an own goal.
The results completed another dramatic night in the competition, with four teams booking their places in the last 16. Fleetwood’s victory was particularly significant as the League Two side reached the fourth round for the first time and were subsequently handed a home tie against Arsenal, while Brighton will face either Manchester City or Norwich City in the next stage.
