BRIGHT CHIMEZIE: SMOKING AND DRINKING DON’T MAKE YOU MORE CREATIVE
Legendary Nigerian musician, Bright Chimezie, has dismissed the belief that smoking or drinking alcohol enhances creativity in music or the arts.
Speaking on a recent episode of the CreativTea Podcast, the “Because English” crooner said many young artists have been misled into thinking that indulging in smoking or drinking is a shortcut to inspiration.
According to him, such habits may be considered “fun,” but they have nothing to do with boosting creativity.
“The claims that you need to drink or smoke to get music inspiration is false. If you are drinking or smoking, you are just having fun. That doesn’t mean it will boost your creativity,” Chimezie stressed.
He explained that true inspiration for music and art comes naturally, not from substances.
Chimezie, who is widely respected for his energetic stage presence and timeless style of highlife music, encouraged younger artists to rely on discipline, talent, and consistency rather than harmful lifestyle choices.
His remarks add to the ongoing debate about the lifestyle of entertainers and the misconceptions around creativity in the music industry.
