President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The President’s aircraft left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 12:45 pm on Friday.

Tinubu is expected to lead an array of dignitaries to the historic Mapo Hall, where Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, will be formally installed and presented with the staff of office.

Oba Ladoja ascended the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025.

The coronation has drawn prominent personalities from across Nigeria, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; former governors Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; as well as lawmakers and top government officials.

Traditional rulers from Yorubaland and beyond are also in attendance, among them the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye; and Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.

Representatives from Oyo State, including Deputy Governor Barrister Adebayo Lawal, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (Oyo South), Senator Yunus Akintunde (Oyo Central), and House of Representatives members Akin Alabi and Olamiju Alao-Akala, are also present.

The event marks a historic moment in Ibadanland, blending tradition, politics, and culture as the city welcomes its new monarch.
